Good news! After being closed due to Covid 19 for many weeks, The National Archives is due to reopen its doors on 21 July 2020. However, it will be a rather different experience for the time being.

Firstly, it is essential that you book in advance, you cannot just turn up and hope to be let in. You will also need to book your documents in advance (up to six), which you can then use during the opening hours, 10.00am to 2.50pm. After the documents have been used by a researcher, they will be placed in quarantine for a time, so may not be available for use by another reader.

As far fewer people will be able to visit The National Archives at this time, the TNA are continuing to make digital downloads freely available.
