Welcome to the Genus Ancestral Research website

Margaret Lewis

My name is Margaret Lewis and I am a professional genealogist, specialising in Kent research.

Family history is becoming ever more popular, and many people have a great interest in finding about their roots. If you are a beginner to this fascinating hobby, or if you have been doing your own research for many years, I can assist you with your Kentish ancestry.

Perhaps you have already started to do some family history research, but have come to a halt as you live too far away to visit the archives yourself? Perhaps you don't have the time to continue with the research, or have got stuck, not knowing where else to look for that elusive ancestor?

If you require a small individual search, I will be very happy to do this for you. However, if you would like to know what else could be discovered about your ancestors, please get in touch; you may be amazed what can be found!

Research documents

In Kent we are very fortunate as there is a wealth of surviving records enabling us to find out so much about our Kentish ancestors. Perhaps you just want to find a birth or baptism, marriage or a death or burial, or perhaps you would love to find out more - what sort of house did your ancestors live in, what was their occupation, were they rich or poor, were they law abiding or did they have a brush with the law?

By using parish records, printed sources, local indexes, wills, court records, newspapers, maps, school records, apprenticeship records and more it is possible to uncover a wealth of information about your ancestors, back to the 16th century or even earlier.

It is these records which make your ancestors become real people once again, rather than just a list of names and dates on a page.

Thank you for visiting my website, take a look through the pages to find more information about my Kent research service. If you would like to discuss your requirements in more detail please feel free to contact me by post, email or telephone.

About me

Genus Ancestral Research was established in 1997 to offer a genealogical and local history research service to clients with ancestors in Kent, or who wished to find out more about the history of their house, village, town or parish in the County.

After completing my degree, I studied for my genealogical qualifications at the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury. I was successful in obtaining the Part I and Part II Certificates in Genealogy, as well as passing the Record Agent Assessment.

In recent years the popularity of genealogy and the growth of the internet has resulted in an explosion of new material being made available. I am constantly updating my knowledge and research methods in order to provide an up to date, knowledgeable service to my clients.
